Folic acid is a vitamin belonging to the B complex (vitamin B9). Participates in the amino acids metabolism and the synthesis of nucleic acids, essential for blood cell formation. The high speed of passage of ingesta in broilers puts these birds at greater risk of developing folate deficiency. Folic acid deficiency causes reduced growth, poor coat, and inadequate feather development. Hypochromic macrocytic anemia is common.
